(Milcah Anila, Intern Journalist) Lucknow: The Mathura District Court on Friday accepted a petition seeking removal of the Shahi Idgah Mosque near Sri Krishna’s birthplace in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. A petition was filed in the district court last month challenging the refusal of the civil court in Mathura to hear the same issue.
District Judge Sadhana Rani Thakur recently agreed to hear the case. The next hearing was adjourned to November 18. It is known that Mathura is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The Shahi Idgah Mosque was built in the 17th century on 13 acres of land belonging to the Katra Keshav Dev Temple on the site.
However, in 1968, the Mathura court approved the land agreement between Srikrishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan and the Shahi Idgah Management Committee. In 1968, Srikrishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan was accused in the petition of fraudulently compromising with the Idgah Trust Management Committee. It is alleged that the Mughal king Aurangzeb demolished the Krishna temple in Mathura and built a mosque.
It is learned that petitioner Vishnu Jain had filed a petition on September 30 in the Civil Judge’s Court in Mathura seeking removal of the occupation of the Shahi Idgah Mosque from the birthplace of Lord Krishna. But dismissed the petition saying that only the devotee had the power to file a case in court on behalf of God.
