(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) The central government imposed a lockdown in March in view of the growing infection of the coronavirus epidemic. After the four-stage lockdown, the government started the process of unlocking, so that the economy could be accelerated. During the last two months, the government has given huge discounts in Unlock 1 and Unlock 2.
At the same time, the process of Unlock 3 will be started in the country from August 1. Till now, there were speculations that the government could allow schools to reopen in Unlock 3, but the government changed its mind at the last minute. Metro Rail services are also not likely to start soon. At the same time, gymnasium and swimming pool are also likely to remain closed for the time being.
The government has announced two phases of Unlock 1.0 and Unlock 2.0 respectively in June and July. More activities are being allowed at each stage so that economic activity can resume.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development on Monday opened consultations with states and other stakeholders on the reopening of schools which have been closed since March due to the epidemic. The meeting was chaired by Secretary Anita Karwal, School Education. At the meeting, state education secretaries discussed the health and safety of students, hygiene measures in schools, and online and digital education issues. Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that “suggestions would be sought from parents on the reopening of the schools, which would be examined and sent to the Ministry of Health and Home Affairs.”
