(Namita Pradhan, Intern Journalist) Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh tribal minor girls were forced to work in illegal mines for a living. The contractors and the middlemen don’t provide them their daily wages. These girls have to sell their body for wages.
Girls between ages 12-14 years work in the illegal mines and they were forced by the contractor and middlemen to trade their bodies for a wage of RS200-Rs300.
When the girls went for the work the contractor agrees to provide them work with a condition of trading their bodies. As the girls were helpless they agree to it, they were being exploited to provide the work and didn’t receive the full wages. If the girls refuse they were threatened as they will not get work further. As the family’s only source of income lies in their hand they agree to it. Even sometimes the girls were sexually exploited by more than one man and if refused they were threatened of killing her.
The family is known for the fact their girls are facing but as they are helpless they can’t do anything as their daily struggle is feeding their family.
The contractors have arranged some beds at the back of the mines in the hill. The girls are taken over there and with turns, they were exploited sexually. If a girl refuses to it they get beatings.
With the reports from Chitrakoot, the District Magistrate has decided to take strict action, The Uttar Pradesh Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also decided of investigating the matter whereas the ASP Chitrakoot said they are unknown of the incident and now they are alert with the incident so they are further into the issue to collect information.
