(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Mission Shakti campaign on Uttar Pradesh on 17 October to curb crimes against women and children in Uttar Pradesh. As part of the mission, prosecution officers have started pushing back the pleas of the accused in the court with their strong advocacy. In the first two days of Mission Shakti, 14 accused have been sentenced to death in 11 cases of torture and murder with women and mousses. Apart from this, in 11 such cases, 20 convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Avnish Kumar Awasthi said that prosecution officers have achieved great success under the campaign on the first and second day of Mission Shakti. In addition to hanging and life imprisonment, 22 accused were sentenced to imprisonment and financial punishment in eight cases of serious incidents involving women and children. On the second day of the campaign, on 19 October, in 28 cases, letters were sent to the Sessions Court against 30 accused, in which the trial could not begin.

Similarly, under the campaign, in two days, a total of 54 cases were sent to the court against the accused. Apart from this, success was also achieved in revoking the bail of 347 accused. Also, the action was taken against the 101 accused under the Gunda Act against the district Badar. The Additional Chief Secretary says that strict instructions have been given to ensure the death sentence to the accused by rigorous lobbying in rape cases. It is noteworthy that from 17 October to 22 April 2021, instructions have been given to take action under the campaign in women and child crimes under Mission Shakti.
