Deepanshi Mishra (Intern Journalist): The Kolkata Press Club have issued a statement. Trinamool Congress MP reportedly called journalists “two paisa press” in a meeting. The press club also demands an apology from Moitra and ask her to withdraw her statement.
The club in a statement said, ” In a democratic setup, everyone should know the importance of journalism. Journalists face many tough situations, as part of the professional struggle as well as social responsibility.”
For this Moitra responded, “Press should look at their falling standards and the miserable state of paid media.” Moitra also told why she said that statement? She was attending an internal party with workers where the press was not allowed. But someone called the local press and that time Moitra got disappointed. So at the heat of the moment, it came out as, ” Who called these two paisa journalists here?” and this statement got recorded.
