(Rishika Iyer, Intern Journalist): Mumbai seems to be hitting a plateau as the number of fresh cases is reducing every day. With just 806 cases on Tuesday, Mumbai recorded the lowest single-day spike for the first time in 2 months. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), this happens to be the lowest COVID 19 figure in the last 55 days. Dharavi, which was the epicenter of COVID cases in Mumbai, reported only one case.

With a phenomenal recovery rate of over 67%, the BMC is taking new steps to curb the spread of the virus, one of which is to allow anyone to get tested. Previously, a doctor’s prescription was mandatory for tests. People can now go to any private laboratory and get tested at certain fixed rates. Labs charge Rs  2500 per COVID test and Rs 2800 for getting the test done at home.

Aditya Thackeray commended this initiative by the BMC and commented that this would make the citizens feel a lot safer.
