(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: IIT Management will not give a third chance to all the successful one lakh students who qualify for JEE Advanced -2020 under the academic session 2019-20. Management contends that by mid-March the school and coaching centers were open and students had full opportunity to prepare. If they are given a third chance, then in the 2020-21 season, due to Corona, students studying at home will be unjust.
This year students are preparing for 12th Board, JEE Mains, and JEE Advanced with limited resources. According to a senior IIT Council official, one lakh students who are successful for JEE Advanced 2020 are seeking a third chance, but this is not possible. Lockdown, schools, and coaching were closed after mid-March due to the rescue of the covid-19 infection. Whereas students preparing for these competitive exams are already preparing. Therefore their demand cannot be met.
The IITs will have admission to 16,053 seats.
If one lakh students are given a third chance then how will the top two and a half lakh students who qualify for JEE Advanced -2021 get the seat. Together, there will be three and a half lakh students and seats will be limited. This will make the JEE Advanced 2021 exam even harder.
According to IIT’s internal survey, 70 percent of students pass JEE Advanced in the first opportunity. At the same time, 30 percent pass in the second chance. According to IIT management, the top 2.50 lakh students in JEE Mains -2020 were declared successful for JEE Advanced 2020. Out of that, only 1,60,864 students had registered. Out of this, only 1,55,551 students took the exam. About five thousand students did not pay the fees for getting registered on JEE Advanced Portal. In such a situation, the IIT management has decided that only the students who had registered will be given a third chance. In such a situation, only these five thousand students will get a third chance.
