(Ritambhara, intern journalist) Washington: Voters have cast their votes for the presidential election in the US, and according to preliminary results in a CNN exit poll, one-third of American voters cited the economy as the most important issue.
According to the news agency Xinhua, the poll released on Tuesday on Election Day showed that 1 in 5 cited racial inequality as the most important issue in choosing a presidential candidate.
Despite the importance of the economy, the exit poll also shows that a slim majority of voters believe that the country’s priority should now be to deal with coronavirus rather than rebuilding the economy.
6 out of 10 Trump supporters supported the economy as the top issue, while 5 percent cited coronavirus as a major issue. At the same time, 3 out of 10 of Joe Biden’s supporters cited coronavirus as the top issue, while 1 in 10 cited the economy as the top issue.
