(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: Even after monitoring the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal for nearly four decades, the river Ganga, considered sacred, has not yet been cleaned. Now taking it seriously, the tribunal has asked the committee formed in the states for the rejuvenation of the river to prepare and strictly implement the action plan to make the Ganga at least worth bathing.
A bench headed by NGT chief Justice A. K. Goyal has ordered bio oxygen demanded in river water, reducing the number of Coliform bacteria circulating from fecal urine and other pollutants and taking other necessary steps. The court has also asked the RRC to consider using its social work responsibility fund for this purpose. The CSR fund has been used to rejuvenate the part of the river where there is considerable pollution.
