(Namita Pradhan, Intern Journalist) The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Monday has stated a quick immediate regulatory intervention for the top communication services such as Whatsapp, Google Duo, and Viber, and said the time is not opportune to recommend a comprehensive regulatory framework for them.
The whole matter to be looked afresh when more clarity evolved in international jurisdictions in particular to the study undertook by ITU (International Telecommunication Union), TRAI said looking its views to the issue of the regulatory framework for the OTT services of communication.
It has come under the growth in scrutiny but has blown deals to the telecom firms a long-standing demand of parity and level-playing-field with this OTT services which cannibalize once own offerings. The Cellular Operator Association of India has said that it was hopeful as TRAI would address and rectify the long-pending market anomalies once and for everyone.
He also added as no private information and security related issues of OTT services from now onwards but development should be monitored and if the necessary intervention will be held at an appropriate time.
The TRAi has felt the imposition of necessary in getting the details of communication in the intelligible form or through clear text which could lead to a change in the entire architecture of such OTT services which might lack providing the same protection as currently offered or require any provisions which might make the agents include in communication vulnerable unlawful actors.
