(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist) Patna: The weeks-long lockdown imposed on Friday in Patna seems to have less effect than the nationwide curbs enforced in March through June. While Covid-19 cases are unabatedly rising in the state capital, people can be seen wandering on the streets unnecessarily. Cars, buses, trains, and flights pass on and vegetable and fruit markets remain busy, particularly in evenings.
According to the order given on Wednesday by the DM Kumar Ravi, shops selling essential commodities such as grains, fruit, vegetables, dairy products, and meat shops will remain open between the curbs until July 16. Those who breach the norms of lockdown will face legal action.
Sources claimed on Saturday that a total of 430 people had been fined in the state for not following traffic rules and other precautionary measures. A sum of Rs 14.5 lakh was collected from them as a penalty.
Meanwhile, Patna subdivisional Sadar officer Tanay Sultania released a three-day order on Saturday about the closure of the Mithapur vegetable market as citizens blatantly breached social distancing norms.
