(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): The death toll for COVID-19 in Bihar has risen to 84, 197 fresh cases have pushed the state’s tally to 11,111. The government has decided to impose a fine of Rs 50 on people found without face masks at offices and public places to combat the spread of COVID-19.
A notice issued to this effect by the State Health Department on July 3, under the ‘Bihar Epidemic Diseases Covid-19 Regulation 2020,’ also said that people who flout the norm would be given two cost-free masks to motivate them to wear face coverings.
The fine for Rs 50 will be levied under section 188 of the IPC (disobedience to an order properly issued by a public servant), the notification said, adding that the duty of ensuring the proper execution of the order has been assigned to the respective District Magistrates.
