(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) The political rift continues within Nepal’s ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN). The much-awaited important meeting of the Central Secretariat of CPN was held on Wednesday, but the deadlock could not be resolved. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has sought 10 days to respond to the allegations of party executive president Pushp Kamal Dahal Prachanda of running the government without consulting the party.
On 28 November, as soon as the meeting started at Prime Minister Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar, Oli asked members of the party’s Central Secretariat to present a separate political document at the next meeting, to be given 10 days to prepare it.CPN spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha gave this information. He told that the next meeting of the party will be held on 28 November.
The meeting was expected to discuss the 19-page political report given by the party’s working president Prachanda, which was accused of running the government contrary to party rules.
The meeting was held on 31 October between China Oli and his rival Prachanda trying to take advantage of the rift in the Nepal Communist Party and differences in CPN. Oli also turned down Prachanda’s request to convene a meeting of the Central Secretariat to resolve the current power struggle.
Prachanda raises the issue of Oli’s meeting with RAW chief Ollie and Prachanda settled their differences in September after agreeing on a compromise on power, ending the months-long stalemate in the party. All nine members of the Secretariat were present at this important meeting. This meeting was organized on Prachanda’s initiative. A member of the standing committee of CPN said that Prachanda has raised many issues in his political report.
