(Milcah Anila, Intern Journalist) BEIJING: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Mark Esper arrived in India on Monday for the upcoming 2 + 2 talks between India and the United States. The Dragon nation responded to this visit.
It urged the United States to refrain from escalating differences between Beijing and other countries in the region. At a press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin was asked about China’s reaction to Mike Pompeo’s visits to India and other South Asian countries in the wake of China’s threats. He did not repeat them over and over again.
Speaking on the occasion, Wang Wenbin said, “Pompeo’s allegations are baseless. Judging by his comments, the Cold War mentality seems to be sticking to ideological partisan ideology. But we want him to let go of his Cold War, Zero Sum game mentality. China is looking to stir up dissent between the two countries and undermine peace and stability.
Wang Wenbin made the remarks after signing the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA), a milestone between India and the United States. Bekaa enables the sharing of advanced military technology, classified satellite data, and critical information between the two countries.
The 2 + 2 talks will focus on further strengthening bilateral defense ties between the two countries, enhancing defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, and checking China.
Recent Chinese executives in Ladakh, China’s aggression in Indo – Pacific waters, etc. are expected to be key to the talks. Many countries around the world want free transportation in the Indo-Pacific region. But it is well known that China is claiming all these as its waters. Following his visit to India, Pompeo will visit Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
