Lucknow: The UP government is preparing to conduct panchayat elections in February 2021 before the board examination. Due to this, the work of delimitation of gram panchayats has started in many districts.
Gazette notification of the restructuring of panchayats will be done by December 18. In the last five years, in 42 districts which have been affected by the expansion of the boundary of urban bodies, the work of delimitation of gram panchayats will be completed this month. The revision of the voter list of panchayats will also be completed by the end of the year.
There is to be a three-tier panchayat election in Uttar Pradesh. There are 58,758 gram panchayats, 821 kshetra panchayats and 75 zilla panchayats in UP, where elections are to be held. The term of current members expires on 25 December.
Significantly, from March this year, due to the circumstances of Kovid-19 and then the lockdown, preparations for the elections could not start in time. Proposals will be taken by November 20 regarding restructuring of Gram Panchayats. For the reorganization and delimitation of gram panchayats from November 21 to 25, a final proposal will be published at the district level. Objections will be received by December 2 on final publication.
The State Election Commission has started the investigation of the lists in view of the panchayat elections. Unnecessary names on voter lists are being removed and work is on to add new names. Notification has been issued in this regard. The voter list will be released in late December.
E-stamps will be used for the first time in the upcoming panchayat elections. Keeping in view the requirement of the candidates, e-stamps worth Rs 100 and below will be made available. Preparations are being made to open additional counters for this.
Preparations for the three-tier panchayat elections have gradually intensified. This time due to Corona, the number of voters due to migrants returning from non-provinces to their villages 10 Can increase up to 15%. With this the number of booths is also set to increase.
A campaign regarding illegal arms has been started in the state before the panchayat elections. So far, about five and a half thousand illegal parts have been recovered in this operation. These seizures occurred in a month’s campaign. Police have been instructed to continue this campaign till the panchayat elections. According to the police headquarters, the recovered illicit realities include pistols, revolvers and other weapons. 3370 accused were also arrested and 40 illegal manufacturing factories were also arrested.
