(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Paris: Spain’s Rafael Nadal is now one win away from the 1000th win of his career after equaling Roland Garro’s 100th win over red gravel, 13th French Open title, and 20 grand slam world records. Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic of Serbia 6–0, 6–2, 7–5 on Sunday to win the French Open title for the 13th time. This was the 100th win in 102 matches at the French Open in Nadal’s career, while the 999th in his career. In terms of career wins, now ahead of Nadal, America’s Ivan Lendl (1068), Switzerland’s Roger Federer (1242), and America’s Jimmy Connors (1274).
Federer has 20 Grand Slam titles and is now equaled by Nadal. Djokovic and Nadal remain in the first and second place in the world rankings after the French Open. But there is a fight between them to finish the sixth year as number one. If Djokovic wins the World Tour Finals to be held in London from November 15 to 22, he will finish the year as number one for the sixth time in his career. Nadal also has a chance to finish the year as number one. Apart from Djokovic and Nadal for the London World Tour Finals, Dominic Theme from Austria, Stefanos Sitipas of Greece, Danil Medvedev of Russia, and Alexander Zverev of Germany have qualified. Two more players are yet to qualify for this eight-player tournament.
