(Ritambhara, intern journalist) The intention behind China’s plan to lay the railway line through Nepal to Tibet is to develop transport infrastructure in Nepal and strengthen its system. Many Nepal economic experts want to know what Nepal will export to China. Has the Nepal government conducted a study that the prices of goods coming from Kolkata Port and from China to Tibet and future rail will remain the same?

Building the railroad is much easier than Kerung Kathmandu

The apprehension is that the goods coming through China will be expensive. If China only wants rail to the Indian border to serve trade purposes, it should consider the Nathula Pass route. Here the Tibetan border can be reached from Jalpaiguri by completing a distance of only 300 km. The height here is also four thousand meters, from where the construction of the railroad is much easier than Kerung Kathmandu and this path will also benefit Nepal.

China is also doing this to put pressure on India for strategic reasons

It is also in Nepal’s interest if Indian cooperation makes the Kakarbhitta railway track from Nepal’s East-West Corridor or New Jalpaiguri. At the same time, many other experts of Nepal also say that if China comes to the border of India through Nepal, then it is doing this not only for trade but also to put pressure on India for strategic reasons. Therefore, the Government of Nepal should avoid such a situation and it is not in Nepal’s interest either.
