Walmart, a retailer of retail goods, is prohibiting the sale of guns and ammunition from its retail stores across the United States after wild purchases of weapons. Walmart has taken this step at a time when there is a possibility of a violent clash and risk of house squabbling if a deadlock arises on the election day or a unilateral outcome. Gun sales have increased this year due to the reduction in the number of guns and shutdowns across the US due to the Coronavirus. Apart from this, the racial dispute and political tension have also increased the sale of guns. According to an estimate, 50 lakh people said that they had purchased the weapon for the first time. America has more guns than the total population, which is the highest in the world in terms of gun possession.
It is estimated that there are 120.5 guns for every 100 civilians. Among those who feared internal strife after the presidential election results in the US were Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and others. Zuckerberg said, ‘I am concerned that our country is very much divided and it may take a few days and weeks to finalize the election results. The danger of internal strife has arisen throughout the country. US President Donald Trump has indicated several times that the right-wing militia is ready to act if the election result goes against him. Trump’s own administration has considered this militia as the main threat and the prime suspect in inciting violence. According to one study, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, and Wisconsin are the most important in terms of elections and this is where there is the highest risk of action by armed militias. These militia groups run their parallel organization like the police. The nine faction-proud boys, Patriot Prayer, Oath Keepers, Light Foot Militia, Civilian Defense Force, American Constancy, and Bogalu Boise are the most active. Many of these groups have openly supported Donald Trump. Trump has also praised these groups. At the same time, Trump is questioning the electoral process and saying that he will not accept if the results go against him.
On Friday, Trump raised doubts about the voting process. On the other hand, election analysts say that voter fraud and tampering with ballots is very rare in America. Not only this, it has no significant effect on the last. On the other hand, armed militia groups say that if Trump is not given the victory, he will hit the streets. Cases have started in several states in the US over whether to allow guns to be taken at polling stations. A judge in Michigan has given permission to carry a gun. Trump is supportive of this decision. There are only a few hours left in the election in the US but Trump is trailing by 8 percent in support of popular votes from his opponent Joe Biden.
Even after this, no election analyst has said that Trump is not winning the election again.
