(Juhi Aishwary, Journalist): A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court for monitoring on Twitter. The petition said that hate is being spread in the society through fake news and inflammatory messages from the bogus account. This petition has been filed by BJP leader Vineet Goenka. The petitioner has stated that there are hundreds of fake Twitter handles and bogus Facebook accounts in the names of famous people and dignitaries.
The petition states, “This fake Twitter handles and Facebook accounts use real photographs of constitutional officers and famous citizens.” This is the reason why common people believe such messages issued from Twitter handle and Facebook account. Fake accounts are used to incite casteism and violence which threatens the unity of the country.
The petition states that there are currently around 3.5 crore Twitters handle. The Facebook account number is 35 crore. Experts believe that about 10 percent (3.5 million) of these Twitter handles and 10 percent of Facebook accounts (3.5 crores) are duplicate-bogus-fake. Meanwhile, Twitter has started trending on its own platform. Users have trended the hashtag on Twitter as Twitter India. Users allege that their followers have reduced overnight. More than 22 thousand users have trended the hashtag #Twitter_India_chor_ on their own platform. With this hashtag, many users have also shared strange-poor meats. With this hashtag, users, in particular, are complaining to twitter India about the decrease in the number of followers
