(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): Senior journalist and deputy head of Kerala Operation (The Hindu) N.J. Nair died on Monday. He was 59 years old and left behind his wife and two children. A highly reputed and respected journalist for his charming and gentle manners, Nair began his career with The Indian Express and was with The Hindu for the last 25 years. Nair was going to retire early next year. He died after a cardiac arrest at a private hospital.

Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan, Meghalaya Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muralitharan, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Minister of State Thomas Issac and Kadakampally Surendran expressed condolences on Nair’s death. Chief Minister Vijayan said, ‘Nair was a respected journalist and always worked for the upliftment of the state through his writings. His death is a loss to the media.
