(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist); The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has taken a major decision keeping in mind the Tokyo Olympics and other tournaments to be held next year. The Sports Authority of India has decided to open Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range from Wednesday to prepare for the Olympics so that the shooters can practice themselves. Shooting players were unable to practice properly due to the lockdown. In such a situation, SAI has to take this decision.

However, in the first phase, this shooting range is being opened only for those players who are likely to play in the Tokyo Olympics and who can be part of the core Indian team. Apart from this, shooting rage will remain open for those who have achieved quota for Olympics. No doubt Indian athletes have done very well in the shooting in the last few years and many quotas have also been won by Indian sportspersons in the Olympics.

The Sports Authority of India has taken the decision to open a shooting range, stating, “Guidelines issued by the central government and the standard operating procedure i.e. SOP made by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) will be strictly followed to ensure a safe environment in the country. Physical distance or social distancing rules will be implemented. Doing so will prevent coronavirus infection.”

At the same time, shooters will have to book online to avoid congestion at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, as a single point entry system has been kept for the range. Also, thermal screening has been arranged by the Sports Authority of India. SAI has informed that there will be a thermal screening of the players every day, while the shooters will have to download the Arogya Setu app on their phones, which will be tested on entry.
