(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist) Patna: A host of opposition parties in Bihar wrote to the Election Commission asking whether it is possible to hold fair and free polls during this pandemic. Congress, RJD, CPI, CPI (M), RLSP, CPI (ML), HAM have been signatories to the letter sent to the polling body. The parties said that the pandemic had a serious impact on the state and the cases may be much higher than the numbers stated as monitoring is still not as rigorous as it should be.
“It is safe to assume that there are many more infected people who are either asymptomatic or have not yet been tested in the state, making their public movement a risk for others around them”, the parties argued in the letter.
The parties questioned whether the EC in a state of 7.5 crore registered voters would ensure physical distancing. WHO, the Indian Council for Medical Research and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi have consistently supported the two yard distancing.
