(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: The central government said on Friday that so far bird flu has been confirmed in Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat. The government has directed these six states to control the disease as per the action plan. The accidental death of 16 birds has also been reported at DDA Park in Hastasal Village, Delhi and samples have been sent to the laboratory for examination. The infection has been confirmed in six states (Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat) so far. It is learned that the bird-killing campaign in both the affected districts of Kerala is over. The infection-free process continues.

States still untouched by avian influenza (AI) have also been requested to be vigilant about the accidental death of birds and to inform them immediately so that necessary steps can be taken in the shortest possible time. Central teams have been formed to visit the affected states of Kerala, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh which will monitor the situation and carry out necessary epidemiological investigations. The government said that ICAR-Nishad confirmed avian influenza infection at two poultry firms in Panchkula, Haryana after testing the samples. Bird flu has been confirmed in migratory birds in the Junagadh district of Gujarat as well as among crows in Sawai Madhopur, Pali, Jaisalmer, and Mohar districts of Rajasthan.

Therefore, the Department of Livestock and Dairy has suggested to the affected states to control the disease as per the action plan. The statement said, “Accidental deaths of 16 birds have also been reported in DDA Park of Hastasal Village, Delhi. The Livestock Department of Delhi, taking precautionary measures, has given the samples the ICAR-Nishad distinction and is awaiting the test report.

The government said that awareness of the disease is very important among poultry farmers and common people (consumers of eggs and chicken). The statement said the communication of the secretary of the Department of Livestock and Dairy related to instilling confidence in the consumption of chicken and eggs has been sent to the Ministry of Health. The statement said that the Ministry of Health has been requested to issue adequate consultations in this regard so as to rein in the rumors and instill confidence among the people about the consumption of eggs and chicken. In addition, states have been requested to raise awareness about poultry or poultry products that are safe to boil or cook. The Central Government has assured to provide assistance in this matter.
