Saloni Subha ( Intern Journalist) Sri Lanka’ Apex court is considering a petition from at least 40 individuals and an Organization challenging President Gotabaya Rajapaksha’s plan to regain sweeping executive power to his office.

Sri Lanka’s top court began hearing submission on Tuesday from the petitioner who is concerned about the concentration of authority in the hands of the president at the cost of PM and Parliament and the undermining of judicial Independence and law making.

The Democratic mandate which the government received in August 2020 must be recognized. Meanwhile, the mandate must not be misconceived as a blank cheque for the government to do as it pleases, one of the petitioners informed.
