(Juhi Aishwary, Journalist): According to the geographical location, India is a country where there is sunshine on the ground for about 300 days a year. This is the reason why India’s future is golden in terms of solar energy. Generating electricity from traditional resources is becoming more and more expensive. Solar energy is one of its concrete options. In the words of Prime Minister Modi, solar energy is pure, pure, and secure. Sure because the sun will always shine, pure because it does not pollute the environment and secure because it protects our energy needs.
Solar electricity usage is increasing rapidly
Solar energy usage in India has increased rapidly in the last few years as a result of the schemes brought by the Central and State Governments to promote the use of solar energy. People are using electricity from solar energy in their fields, homes, and offices, etc. The government is running several schemes in the field of solar energy including PM Kusum Yojana and Atal Jyoti Yojana. According to experts, between 2015 and 2017 solar power generation exceeded 10,000 MW by 4 times its installed capacity in India. This is 16 percent of the installed capacity of electricity generation in the country.
Solar electricity rate in the country at the lowest level
At present, the rate of solar electricity in India is at the lowest level. A few days ago, six solar power generation companies have offered to sell solar power at the rate of Rs 2.36 per unit in their bid. These companies will generate solar power up to 2,000 MW. Five of these six companies are foreign and one Indian company. Earlier the minimum tariff of solar power was Rs 2.44 per unit. The bid was made in May 2017.
Rewa’s solar project is Asia’s largest solar park
Prime Minister Modi has inaugurated a 750 MW solar project in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh on Friday. It is the largest solar project in Asia and is among the largest solar projects in the world. The Delhi Metro will get 24 percent of the total power generation for this project and the remaining 76 percent will be given to the state electricity distribution companies (discoms) of Madhya Pradesh. Inaugurating the project, the PM said that India has now become the most luxurious market for clean energy and the country has emerged as a model in the field to the world.
Chinese influence will have to be reduced
Currently, China’s solar equipment accounts for 90 percent of the Indian market. Veteran businessman Gautam Adani believes that the next five years are very important. During this period, the dominance of Chinese companies in the solar sector can be completely eliminated. To reduce China’s influence in the solar energy sector, there is a need to mass-produce solar equipment in India. With this, the country will not only achieve self-sufficiency, but many people will also get employment.
