Sonia Gandhi elected interim president of Congress
will hold the position as Congress National President until new Congress President is not elected by Congress core members
The Congress, which was without a president for nearly 2 and a half months since the Lok Sabha elections held, has finally got a new president from the Gandhi family. The Congress Working Committee has elected Sonia Gandhi as the interim president of National Congress till the new National President of Congress is not elected or Sonia Gandhi is not assigned a Regular President.

After the CWC meeting, Randeep Surjewala said that Sonia Gandhi is the most experienced leader. He also said that according to the Congress constitution/ rules of Congress Party, the CWC has only the option to elect an interim president.

At around 11:05 p.m after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Randeep Surjewala Congress media in-charge and C. Venugopal Congress General Secretary gave a press conference. Venugopal said, ‘The second meeting of the Congress Working Committee started at 8:30 pm and has just ended now. 3 resolutions were with one mind passed in the meeting.

3 resolutions passed, praising Rahul’s leadership
The first resolution passed in the Congress Working Committee praised Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. The resolution said that Rahul Gandhi unhesitatingly raised the issues of the country, gave new energy to the Congress party and inspired all the Congress workers. The second resolution was passed regarding the appeal of Rahul Gandhi not to leave the post as Congress President. Venugopal said that after discussions with the state Congress presidents, legislative party leaders, MPs, and other leaders, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously/ with one mind decided that Rahul Gandhi should be the Congress president. However, Rahul Gandhi politely turned it down. It was later decided to make Sonia Gandhi the interim president. She will take over the charge of the party till she is elected regular Congress president.

Passing a resolution expressing concern over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir
The third proposal in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) was passed regarding the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal raised concerns over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Venugopal said that the proposal said that the government should allow a delegation of all parties to visit Jammu and Kashmir to take a look at the reality of Jammu and Kashmir.
