(Pooja Pal, Journalist): Sri Lankan team wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis is in trouble as the police have arrested him on Sunday. Kusal Mendis is accused of crushing an elderly man who was on a bicycle, via his car, due to which the man died. According to the Sri Lankan police, Kusal Mendis has been arrested and will be presented before a magistrate soon.
Right-handed batsman Kusal Mendis allegedly trampled a 74-year-old man with his car in Panadura, a suburb of Colombo. This man was riding a bicycle and died on the spot after this incident. Police said that Mendis is expected to appear before the magistrate this evening. Further investigation of the accident is being done at the moment. The accident happened today i.e. around 5 am on Sunday, July 5, in which a 74-year-old man died in an accident.
Kusal Mendis may be booked for culpable homicide, but he could face some other cases as well because the police are still investigating. At the same time, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s statement on this is yet to come. Mendis is currently one of the main players of the team. He is playing continuously in all three formats for his team.
The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has represented Sri Lanka in 44 Tests and 76 ODIs. Mendes was also a part of the national team, which resumed training after the COVID-19 lockdown from last month. He has scored 2995 runs at an average of 37 in 44 Tests and 2167 runs at an average of 84.7 in ODIs. Mendis has also played 26 T20 Internationals, scoring 484 runs at an average of 18.6.
