Scientists have discovered a gene TLR7 in humans that plays an important role in immune system infection in the novel coronavirus. This gene stops doing its job during infection. This new research will help to better understand and treat the global pandemic Covid-19.
Research published in the American Medical Association Journal states that an in-depth study and analysis of the genetic sequences of four young men from two families severely suffering from Covid-19 has been done. These severe patients of Kovid-19 had no prior disease. According to scientists at the Netherlands Radboud University Medical Center, a variant of the gene TLR7 was found in these patients. In addition, a reduction was found in the formation of immunity molecules type-1 and 2 interferons. These patients, severely suffering from Covid-19, had never had trouble breathing before the disease and were now put on a ventilator at the ICU due to this problem.
The gene TLR7 is found on the surface of human cells
In this research, by changing the number of such genes and changing them from other relatives, it was found that the gene TLR7 of these four patients had stopped doing an essential job. In these four patients, TLR7 of the X chromosome was found to lack type-1 and 2 IFN responses. This means that proteins from the TLR gene can be ingested. These occur on the surface of human cells. They have an important role in identifying microbes. It identifies active bacteria and viruses in the body and keeps immunity active. TLR7 then activates interferons that activate proteins to detect virus infection.
Co-researcher Alexander Hueschen reported that never before has TLR7 been linked to immune disturbances after birth. Therefore, its role is very important to fight the coronavirus infection. Because TLR7’s task is to identify and protect an intruder from the body, which does not occur after infection. For this reason, despite having no disease in these brothers, they had a severe infection of the corona.
