(Satya Havilah, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: Tons of rubbish on Mount Everest has gone to waste. In this context, the Government of Nepal has launched a new project with the motto ‘Do not turn Everest into a dumping site’ and ‘Let’s save the famous mountain’. As part of this, special teams were hired to collect the garbage that had accumulated on Everest. Torn tents, empty water bottles, broken ladders, ropes… all sorts of rubbish was collected.
These are made into works of art by foreign and domestic artists. An exhibition will be set up with these to create environmental awareness. In addition, locals are trained in making art objects out of garbage. “Our goal is not only to create incredible artwork out of garbage but also to create employment,” says project director Tommy Gustafson.
