(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): The West Bengal Women’s Commission has sought a report from the Kolkata Police on the social media targeting of Bengali women Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. The episode of vulgar comments against Bengali women has started on social media since the name of her alleged Bengali girlfriend Riya Chakraborty in the Sushant case.
Many Bengali women have complained to the Women’s Commission about this. He says that objectionable things are being said, blaming him directly for Sushant’s death. Based on the same, the Commission of Women has now sought a report from the Deputy Commissioner (Cyber Crime) of Kolkata Police. Kolkata Police was asked to submit the report to the Commission, West Bengal Women’s Commission Chairperson Leena Gangopadhyay said – “We have asked the Kolkata Police to investigate these matters in-depth and submit the report to the Commission.” We received a complaint on social media from an organization called Bang Yoddha for making obscene remarks against Bengali women.
Such conduct is highly objectionable and undesirable. Many students have also complained to the Commission about this. Along with complaints from the organization, a link to those posts has also been sent to the police. Some links have become inactive after the complaint was filed, although the round of pornographic comments continues.
