Nepal’s journalist Balram Baniya

The body of senior journalist Baniya, who had been associated with Nepal’s largest media house Kantipur for the last three decades, was found on Tuesday, near Hetauda, about 200 km from Kathmandu. The last news in the name of journalist Baniya was about China. Therefore, there is no discussion of whether China is involved in his suspicious death.

On 24 June, Balram Baniyan published a news report in Kantipur that mentioned illegal occupation by China at several places in the northern border of Nepal. It also had facts and evidence. So the news got a place on the first page of Kantipur and it was made banner news. After this news about China in Nepal’s most popular and best-selling newspaper, there was bound to be an uproar in Kathmandu.

This news was published in the Nepali media at a time when the Nepal government, bureaucracy, and most of the media were under the influence of China, and Nepal was accusing India of taking possession of its land. There was a lot of uproar in the Parliament over this news and Nepal’s Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali was given the post of cleaning in the National Assembly, the upper house of the Nepali Parliament.
