(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Delhi: Teachers play an important role in educating their students as well as the whole society. One such teacher is Parvinder Kumar, who is giving children a lot of informative learning to preserve the environment beyond books. So that the whole society can become aware through children.
Parvinder Kumar is making children aware of environmental protection as their responsibility. He also has a YouTube channel (Parvinder Kumar), in which he shares many informative and important things related to the environment with people so that people too can become aware. The Dell Policy Hack for Teachers program was organized by Dell for the first time in India on 18 January 2019 last year.
86 schools participated in this program out of which 20 schools were selected. These included 17 private schools and three government schools. But out of all these schools, the project ‘Prayas’ of Ghorda Government Higher Children’s School, Parvinder Kumar, was chosen as the best.
He started this project for the conservation of birds, which he named “Prayas”. The purpose of his project is to conserve extinct birds. The theme of this endeavor has been added to the book as well. The State Award has also been received by Delhi Education Directorate in 2017 for the same project.
While attending a seminar at Okhla Bird Sanctuary in 2017, Parvinder observed how owls have been preserved here. Just from there, he got the inspiration to conserve other birds as well. He wondered how to conserve the extinct birds from Delhi. His efforts also saw Oriental Magpies Robin, Taylor Bird, Red Waiting Nightingale, White Throttid King Fisher, Maina, Dove, in addition to the birdhouse on the school’s campus. In 2017, the region also saw the first Rufus tripi bird in the area. At the same time, the first species of the eagle was also seen in this school in 2018. But the sparrow bird has not come here yet.
Parvinder said that the work that chemical fertilizers are doing today was done by birds. But our ecosystem is deteriorating due to the disappearance of birds. Due to the felling of trees in the name of development, we have put their life in danger from the birds. He has prepared 11-12 birdhouses, bird feeders, bird folders for water, and birdbaths for bathing by making a team of some school children. In the school itself, children have been built a nest with waste items, in which no money is spent and junk is also used. He said that before March, birds nest in the school-built birdhouse because May is the time they lay their eggs in June. Parvinder said that all the children along with studies also take care of the birds.
