(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist): Talking about cricket and if Sachin Tendulkar’s name is not known, it seems somewhat incomplete, this veteran player called ‘God of Cricket’ has made many records, some of which are still intact. This excellent player has been praised by his coach Ramakant Achrekar since childhood. Sachin says that he has taught him not only cricket but also many things related to life.
Ramakant Achrekar has been instrumental in making Sachin Tendulkar a great cricketer. Coach Ramakant Achrekar suggested Sachin move from New English High School in Bandra to Saradashram Vidya Mandir School at the age of 11 so that he could give more time to cricket. At the same time, coach Achrekar’s way of coaching was completely different. When he used to go for training, Achrekar used to keep a rupee coin on the stump.
In order to get that coin, he used to bet that the one who will out Sachin will get this coin. And if Sachin is not out, Sachin will get that coin… Tendulkar has won 12 coins of one rupee in this way and has kept them with him even today, which is not less than a medal for him. This challenge of Achrekar enabled Sachin not to lose his wicket under any circumstances.
Apart from this, coach Achrekar has given him many more challenges to make Sachin a big batsman. Once Sachin invited coach Achrekar for dinner at home, he said that he would come home only on the condition of scoring a century. The great thing is that Sachin hit a century and then made Coach Achrekar a dinner at home. Sachin considers this incident as one of the biggest moments of his life.
