(Dharshini.G, Intern journalist) Chengdu, China: Chinese specialists took responsibility for the previous U.S. Department in the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu on Monday, days after it was ordered to shut down in the midst of an ever-rising conflict between them.
China ordered that the mission be shut in reprisal for a U.S. order to close the Chinese Consulate in Houston. The tit for tat closings denoted a noteworthy acceleration in the various debates between the nations over issues extending from exchange and innovation to national security, human rights, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
A State Department explanation to The Associated Press communicated frustration, saying the office “has stood as the center point of our relations with the individuals in Western China, including Tibet, for a long time.”
“We are disappointed by the Chinese Communist Party’s choice and will endeavor to proceed with our effort to the individuals in this locale through our different posts in China,” the announcement said. China’s foreign ministry gave a short notification saying “competent authorities” entered through the front passage and assumed control over the premises after U.S. representatives shut it at 10 a.m.
