(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warning, the first cyclonic storm of this season will hit the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Wednesday. Due to this, there will be heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and surrounding areas. A warning has been issued to citizens and fishermen not to venture towards the sea.
The Indian Meteorological Department said in its Monday bulletin that there has been a storm in the southwest Bay of Bengal and the northwest part of it along with it in the last 6 hours. Its center is 600 km south-southwest of Puducherry and 630 km from Chennai. In the next 24 hours, the cyclonic storm will form and move in the northwest direction. In the afternoon of 25 November, it will cross Karaikal and Mamallapuram off the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture towards the sea and the Bay of South Bengal during 22 November. Also from 22 to 25 November, do not go between South Bay of Bengal and West, Gulf of Mannar, Coast of Tamil Nadu, and Coast of Southern Andhra Pradesh. RK Gennamani, the senior scientist at the National Weather Forecasting Center, said: “Heavy rains are expected over Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema regions. The storm will bring strong winds and rain when it hits the ground. This can cause heavy damage.”
According to the morning bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department, the severe cyclonic storm formation in the Arabian Sea weakened as a cyclonic storm near Somalia.
The speed storm’s landfall occurred in northern Somalia and moved westward at a speed of 9 km per hour. It is likely that it will move in the western direction and gradually become a depression in the next 6 hours.
