Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday made a big comment praising the functioning of house-keeping housewives. During the hearing of a case, the High Court bench said that the contribution of domestic women to society is very big and challenging. But despite all this, there is no praise in society.

During the hearing of the case after the death of a housewife in Nagpur Bench, Justice Anil Kilor said in his remarks that the housewife of a house maintains the whole house. She is a means of support for her husband, while she plays the role of a guide for the children. The housewives also have the responsibility of taking care of the elderly while in the family.

Justice Kilor said that any housewife is engaged in some work all the time. Apart from this, there is no day of holiday for them either. Despite all this, his work is not respected so much.

The court made these remarks on the petition of a person named Rambhau Gavai and his sons, who live in the Amravati district. Gavai filed a petition in the High Court challenging an order of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal. The Accident Claim Tribunal issued an order on 3 February 2007, refusing to pay compensation to Rambhau Gavai after his wife’s death.
Rambhau Gavai’s wife died in 2005, following which a petition for compensation was filed at the Accident Claim Tribunal. The petition was dismissed by the Accident Claims Tribunal, stating that the woman who died was a housewife and was also not the source of the family’s income. Reversing the tribunal’s order, the court praised the contribution of housewives and said that the contribution of domestic women cannot be weighed with money.
