PM Modi was given this honor for enhancing the strategic partnership of Indo-US and for emerging as a global power to India. US National Security Advisor Robert C. O’Brien gave this information. Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu accepted the medal on behalf of Prime Minister Modi. O’Brien tweeted, “President Donald Trump, through his leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, introduced the Legion of Merit to enhance the strategic partnership of America-India. Earlier, Trump also awarded the Legion of Merit to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.

America is the latest country to give its highest award to the Indian Prime Minister. Earlier in 2016, ‘Order of Abdulaziz Al Saud’, ‘State Order of Ghazi Aamir Amanullah Khan (2016)’, ‘Grand Caller of the State of Palestine Award (2018)’ by Saudi Arabia. ‘Order of Zayed’ Award in 2019 by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). ‘Order of St. Andrew’ Award by Russia in 2019. The ‘Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddin’ Award was awarded by the Maldives in 2019.
