(Namita Pradhan, Intern Journalist) The Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi is the festival of Hindu celebrated on the arrival of Lord Ganesh to earth from Kailash Parvat with mother Goddess Parvati/Gauri. It is celebrated by praying idols of Lord Ganesh made of clay at home or publically on pandals. On this day Vedic hymns and Hindu text were chanted and fast was also done by devotees. Special sweet is made for the lord which is Modak as it was believed to be the favorite of Lord Ganesh.
The festival ends on the 10th day from the start, as the idol is carried with a public procession with music, dance, and grand chanting, and immersed in nearby water bodies such as river or sea. It was believed that after the dissolves the lord returns to its home to Mount Kailash to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva.
It is celebrated all over India, mostly in Maharastra, Odisha, Karnataka, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu and also in Nepal.
