The storm may hit Mumbai tomorrow

According to the Meteorological Department, it will reach the coast of South Gujarat and North Maharashtra on June 3. In view of this, the coastal areas of Maharashtra apart from Mumbai have been put on alert. Currently, this storm is 490 km from Mumbai, 280 km from Goa’s capital and 710 km from Surat, Gujarat.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding the area of ​​pressure being created in the Arabian Sea. The meteorological department said that the storm could turn into a storm cyclone in the next 12 hours and a dangerous cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours. This is the reason that the districts around Mumbai have been kept on high alert. Two teams of NDRF have been deployed at Palghar, three in Mumbai, one in Thane, two in Raigad, and one in Ratnagiri.

The meteorological department said that the pressure in the east-central Arabian Sea increased northward at a speed of 11 kilometers per hour and by 5:30 am on Tuesday morning, the pressure increased further. It is currently in the center of the Arabian Sea, 280 km west-southwest from central Panaji (Goa), 490 km south-southwest from Mumbai (Maharashtra), and 710 km south-southwest from Surat (Gujarat).

The Meteorological Department says that this storm can raise waves of more than two meters high. These waves will hit the lower coastal areas of Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts during landfall. Fishermen have been asked to return from the sea. People living in coastal areas are being sent to safe places.

6 districts of Maharashtra may be affected

Director-General of Meteorological Department Mrityunjay Mohapatra has said that on June 3, the speed of the severe cyclonic storm will be 90-105 kmph. On Wednesday, a severe cyclonic storm is expected to cross the coasts of North Maharashtra and South Gujarat between Harihareshwar town and Daman in Raigad district.

According to estimates, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Thane, Raigad, Mumbai, and Palghar districts of Maharashtra may be more affected.

The Chief Minister’s Office said that Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over video conferencing and has reviewed the preparedness of the state.

This type of storm came for the first time after 1891

According to the Cyclone e-Atlas of the Meteorological Department – For the first time since 1891, a storm situation is occurring around the coastal area of ​​Maharashtra in the Arabian Sea. An English newspaper quoted meteorologist Akshay Deoras as saying that earlier in 1948 and 1980, such pressure was made twice and storm conditions were created, but later the situation was averted. From June 2 onwards till June 3, there is a possibility of very high winds and heavy rains in Maharashtra.
