The US authorities have evacuated the Chengdu Consulate Complex as per the order of the Chinese government. The US State Department said in a statement that the embassy suspended operations at 10 am Monday.

He expressed disappointment over China’s decision and said that the US would try to maintain its access to the region through its other missions. According to official media, the US flag has been lifted from the US Consulate in Southwest China. The US authorities have evacuated the Chengdu Consulate Complex as per the order of the Chinese government. Government broadcaster CCTV said on its social media account that the flag was lifted from the US consulate in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, at 6.18 am on Monday morning. Police have closed two to three blocks in the area around the consulate, due to which the premises can no longer be seen.

Vehicles were seen moving from some distance behind several police lines. In response to the US order to close the Chinese consulate in Houston, China on Friday ordered the closure of the US consulate in Chengdu. A few trucks arrived at the US consulate on Sunday and left a few hours later. Before this area was closed, a crowd of people gathered for the second consecutive day to see this complex. People stopped to take selfies and photographs, which disrupted traffic on the road there. The crowd gathered here for the second day in a row. The police have blocked the road and walkways in front of the American consulate and placed blockades there.

Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is in international headlines with the city of Houston in the US, as China and the US have ordered the closure of each other’s consulates. In retaliation, the US ordered the closure of China’s consulate in Houston earlier this week, following which China also ordered the closure of the Chengdu consulate. The US has alleged that the Chinese consulate in Houston Has become the home of spies who tried to steal the data of companies in Texas.
