Transgender to be included in the police force

(Namita Pradhan, Intern Journalist): The Home Minister includes the Transgenders as Third Genders for the central armed forces. The ministry is at the last stage of consultations with the central parliamentary forces- BSF, CRPF, ITBF, CISF, and SSB- on including transgender, along with the male and female, as a rule for the recruitment examination in central forces, starting from this year.

The steps were taken after the act of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) act, 2019 in December. The act held the prohibition of discrimination against transgender in various matters like education, employment, healthcare, services, accommodation, right to acquire property, and other public services and facilities.

In April 2020, the department of personnel and training had requested the central minister and department to change the rules and allow transgender to be a part of the police force, in confirmation with the act
