(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): An association of travel agents has appealed to the West Bengal government to reconsider its decision to suspend flights to Kolkata from six major cities. The government of West Bengal has banned these flights till 31 August in view of the coronavirus epidemic. The arrival of flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Nagpur and Ahmedabad to Kolkata Airport was first banned for 14 days from 14 July. However, it has not been relieved since then.
The Travel Agent Federation of India, in a letter to Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, said that the residents of West Bengal were stranded in six cities, and if direct flight services resumed, businessmen would also benefit. Anil Punjabi, president of the organization’s Poorve region, said in the letter that it may not be time for foreign travel, but at least flights can be started for people stranded from other parts of the country.
