Trump’s TikTok ban put on hold

Saloni Subha ( Intern Journalist ) President Donald Trump’s ban on TikTok was put on hold by a US judge, dealing a blow to the government in its showdown with the popular Chinese-owned app that it says threaten national security.

After the Sunday hearing, US district judge Carl Nichols granted a preliminary injunction against the ban on new downloads of the video-sharing, which have gone into effect at 11:59 pm in Washington. The judge refused to grant an injunction on a different set of prohibition which is designed to further restrict the use of the app in the US.

However, Tik Tok’s owner, ByteDance Ltd, requested the hold after the president ordered the app out of American stores unless the company sold a stake in its US operation to a domestic buyer. The ban would have removed Tik Tok from stores run by Apple and Google’s Android.
