(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): A 6.6 magnitude earthquake shook Izmir’s Aegean province on Friday. Some videos were revealed which were extremely intimidating. The news agency reported that some 1044 aftershocks hit the area, with 43 of them being above 4 in intensity.
The country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said in the early hours of Monday that the death toll in Turkey has risen to 76 from the earthquake in the Aegean Sea. The 6.6 magnitude earthquake shook the Aegean province of Izmir on Friday. Some videos had surfaced, which were extremely intimidating. A News Agency reported that some 1,044 aftershocks hit the area, with 43 of them being above 4 in intensity. It said that 962 people were injured, out of which 743 people have been discharged from hospitals and 219 people are still under treatment. So far 1,864 tents have been installed.
Temporary housing has been set up in Izmir city to meet the immediate need for shelter, which includes 3,545 tents, 57 general-purpose tents, 24,382 blankets, 13,280 beds, 5,500 sleeping sets, 2,657 kitchen sets, and four showers and toilet containers. AFAD has rescued 105 people from the wreck. Search and rescue operations are currently underway.
