On February 13, 2019, the US Navy has signed a $ 43 million deal with Boeing to build these drone submarines. Under this deal, Boeing will manufacture four Orca XL Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (XLUUVs) submarines.

These drone submarines are capable of carrying 6,500 nautical miles at a time. These Orca class submarines are capable of carrying out mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, electronic warfare, and strike missions. An Orca class submarine can carry 46 lightweight torpedoes during its mission deployment. Apart from this, this submarine can also carry 48 heavyweight torpedoes. With the help of these torpedoes, any enemy warship on the sea surface can be destroyed easily. It can also deploy anti-ship missiles. This submarine can also lay mines in the sea.
