(Satya Havilah, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: As the country waits for the coronavirus vaccine, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a key announcement. The Finance Minister has announced Rs 900 crore for vaccine research and development in connection with the end of the Covid-19 epidemic. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the funds would be used only for vaccine research and development. Covid said the funds were provided to the biotechnology department for the scheme, which was announced under the name Suraksha Mission. She said these were part of the Rs 2.65 lakh crore Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0 stimulus. There are already several vaccine trials in stages in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also recently held a review meeting to assess the progress of these investigations.
Health Minister Harsh Vardhan attended the review meeting, members of the Nitish Aayog, senior scientists, and other officials. The announcement comes after estimates of the cost of research and development of the vaccine.
