(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): The use of e-cigarettes in teenagers increases the chance of beginning to smoke regular cigarettes. Evidence has found that e-cigarettes increase blood pressure and pulse rate, alter the artery walls, and make them stiffer and less elastic and hinder blood vessel activity by weakening their lining. Increasing of these four causes is risk factors for blood clots and fat build-up within walls of the artery that can induce a heart attack. Vaping has adverse effects on the lungs.
Recommended by cardiologists and researchers:
– To protect young people, regulate e-cigarette advertising the same as tobacco advertisements.
– Age verification protocols to discourage teens from accessing e-cigarette websites.
– Schools to educate children about the negative effects of e-cigarettes.
– Community efforts to increase awareness about adverse symptoms.
