(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): A Suitable Boy’s first trailer, starring Ishaan Khatter and Tabu, is out now. The series, directed by Mira Nair, is based on a book of the same name by Vikram Seth. It also has other stars including Tanya Maniktala, Rasika Dugal, Savita Kapoor, Randeep Hooda, Shefali Shah, Ram Kapoor, and Shahana Goswami.
The trailer starts with a voiceover that says “No one can be sure of what the future will be.” Then we see Tanya Maniktala as Lata, telling her family that she does not want to get married while they want her to marry the man of their choice. Maan Kapoor (Ishaan Khatter), on the other hand, is in love with a courtesan named Saeeda Bai (Tabu). The highlight of the video is the crackling energy from the pair.
Ishaan Khatter shared the trailer on Instagram and wrote, “A first sneak peek into the world of #ASuitableBoy @bbc: Love will push you beyond your boundaries. Based on the best-selling novel, A Suitable Boy starts 26th July on BBC One and @BBCiPlayer. “
It is the first collaboration between Ishaan Khatter and the acclaimed film-maker. Tabu had previously worked with Mira Nair in the 2006 film The Namesake, which also featured late actor Irrfan. The premiere of the show is on July 26.
