(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): Scientists, researchers, doctors, and technology companies are constantly on the lookout to tackle the Coronavirus Pandemic. Meanwhile, in an hour, the way of ‘Feluda’ testing kit giving accurate information of the corona has been cleared. ICMR has issued guidelines for testing this.
According to the ICMR, the testing lab will have to follow the same guidelines that they followed during the RT-PCR test. Feluda’s name may be strange, but the story behind it is like a film.
According to ICMR, about two laboratories in the country have been licensed for testing corona. All these testing labs will be allowed to perform feluda test along with RT-PCR or any other test. But in real-time reporting to the testing lab, ICMR will be informed whether the testing is done by Feluda or by RT-PCR.
The indigenous CRISPI is based on gene-editing technology. This technique is helpful in identifying the genetic material of the coronavirus SARS-CoV2. This test gives the same exact result as the Rt PCR test. Rt PCR is considered effective in the test of Covid-19 all over the world so far. Now Feluda has emerged as an option which is very cheap as well as giving quick results.
The biggest thing is that the result of the RT-PCR test takes about 24 hours, but the result of Feluda test will come in less than an hour.
A senior scientist of ICMR said that due to excessive time it is possible to carry out RT-PCR tests on a large scale. The manufacturer claims that there is no need for confirmation from the RT-PCR test after conducting this test. In this test, the person who comes positive will be considered positive and the person who will be negative will be considered negative.
The test has been developed by the team of Devijyoti Chakraborty and Sauvik Maiti of CSIR i.e. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology. While this test is being produced by Tata Sons. Feluda test has been approved by the Drug Controller General of India in September. Negative and positive patients are identified through this test. This test is similar to RT-PCR tests, which are being used for coronavirus diagnosis.
The Editor Linked Uniform Detection Assay (FNCAS9) is called Feluda in short. It is named after the detective character of Feluda Bengal’s famous filmmaker and writer Satyajit Ray, who was a private detective and would have somehow investigated and located the accused.
