(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist); July 6 was the first day of Sawan on Monday. The month of Sawan is very dear to Lord Shiva. In India, there is a tradition of doing special worship of Shiva in the month of Sawan. In the month of Sawan(July), crowds start gathering in the temples from early in the morning.

It is believed that Goddess Sati was reborn as Parvati at the home of Parvataraja Himalaya. Goddess Parvati did austerities in the month of Sawan only to make Lord Shiva her husband again. After this, Lord Shiva was pleased and married Mother Parvati, fulfilling her wishes. In the month of Sawan, Lord Bhole Shankar considered Goddess Parvati as his wife, hence Lord Shiva loves the month of Sawan.

According to another belief, when the sea was churning between the gods and the asuras, there was a pitcher of poison from the sea. But neither the gods nor the demons were ready to take the pot of this poison. Then Lord Shankar drank this poison to eliminate the effects of poison and protect all the worlds. The heat was increasing in Lord Shiva due to the effects of poison, then all the gods started offering water to Lord Shankar to reduce the effect of poison. From then, in the month of Sawan, the tradition of Jalabhisheka of Lord Shiva started.
